Riga Private Jewish School Ohel Menachem Chabad
The Ohel Menachem Day School was founded in 1995 by Rabbi Mordechai and Rivka Glazman, local representatives of the world wide Chabad-Lubavitch movement. It was named after the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson of blessed memory. The school is supported by the Or Avner Fund, the Rohr Foundation, the Israeli Department of Education and private donors. Today it is an accredited school where children are educated according to the program of Ministry of Education of Latvia. They learn English and Hebrew in addition to Russian and Latvian. The students work on computers not only during lessons of information science, but also during other school disciplines. There is a free access to Internet. The children study Jewish history and traditions, learn to pray, read Torah and celebrate their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. The school building was constructed in 1870 and was in need of major repairs. All rooms have recently been renovated and classrooms are outfitted with video and audio equipment. The school has a modernly equipped chemic and physics lab. 
The Library has a full selection of books in Latvian and Russian, including a great number of educational, Jewish literature and fiction. It also offers both audio and video tapes, and literature on laser discs.
At the present time, 85 children study in Grades 1-9. The staff consists of 28 teachers including a psychologist and speech therapist. Vocal, dance and theatre groups work at school. Lessons of corrective gymnastics are regularly held. After graduating children can continue studies not only in high schools of Latvia, but also in the USA, Israel, Europe. A Kosher Kitchen at school provides the children with hot meals 3 times a day. School transport brings children to school from all districts of Riga and Jurmala and takes them home at the end of the school day. Children are at school from 8.15 to 17.30.
